Trek
deep into the Altiplano desert to impressive valleys, gorges and
high plateaus with ancient villages. The region offers crystal clear
rivers, blue and emerald lakes, cactus forests and abundant wildlife.
The tableland of the Altiplano is crowned by the highest volcanoes
in the world and inhabited by Aymara shepherds at an altitude of
approximately 4000m. Altiplano trekking introduces you to the adventure
and desert magic of this arid and vast table land. On average in
the altiplano you will be hiking at over 4.000 mt/ 13,000 ft above
sea level, surrounded by the highest volcanoes in the world. Descend
from the high Altiplano to San Pedro, Atacama to visit the salt
lakes, geysers, oases and mineral rock formations of this amazing
desert.
Our trek through the Altiplano will take us through three National
Parks: Lauca(138.000 Has), the highest in the world), Isluga (174.744
Has) and Las Vicunas, all declared Biosphere World Reserves. On
the treks we will see animals like: condors, flamingoes and different
species of cameloids. We will find the Quenoa, the tree that grows
highest on this planet, over 3.500 mt/11,500 ft. After several day
in the Altiplano we go down to San Pedro Atacama.
