Cerro El Plomo
Cerro Plomo (5.424m/ 12.600ft) is the giant ice-capped dome that domains Santiago´s valley, visible from most parts of the city on a clear day. The Plomo is a popular high-altitude mountain excursion among local enthusiasts mainly because the ascent is not technical and suitable for anyone on good physical condition. However, the altitude and the low temperatures make of this excursion a serious goal which requires acclimatization and technical gear. The Mountain gained a mystic reputation on 1954 when an ancient mummy of an Inca child was found few meters below its summit. Today, small walls of rock still stand and show the high tracks the Incas followed while exploring their domains south of Peru. We strongly suggest this itinerary as an acclimatization procces for those willing to do the Aconcagua Expedition.
