Aconcagua
Expedition
This
adventure will take us to the highest point in the entire American
conti nent
(6.959 m./22.834feet) and also the highest peak outside Asia. The
Aconcagua is located in Argentina, close to the border with Chile,
the name means " The stone sentinel" in the quichua language.
ITINERARY
-Day 1, Morning drive from Santiago to the Argentinean border (150km/ 94miles) arriving at Hotel in Puente del Inca (2,720m/ 9,100ft);-Day 2, Drive to Mendoza to fill out the permit forms and return to Puente Inca;-Day 3, Hike to Confluencia (3-4hrs, 3,200m/ 11,500ft) with equipment and food carried by mules;-Day 4, Reach base camp "Plaza de Mulas" (6-7hrs, 4,370m /14,000 ft) supported by mules.-Day 5, Stay in Plaza de Mulas;-Day 6, 6hrs hike Pza.Mulas to Camp1 (Nido Condores, 5,450m/17,880ft) carrying our backpacks and return to Pza. Mulas;-Day 7, Pza Mulas to C1 Nido Condores (6hrs);-Day 8, Stay at C1 Nido Condores;-Day 9, 5 hrs hike to Camp2 Piedras Blancas (5,950mt/14,700ft) carrying equipment and return to C1;-Day 10, If the acclimatization is successful continue 5-6 hrs to Camp2;-Day 11, Stay at C2 Piedras Blancas;-Day 12, Summit Attempt (6,959m/22,834ft ) on a strenuous 10-12hrs hike and return to Camp 2;-Day 13, Descend to Plaza de Mulas;-Day 14, Plaza de Mulas- Puente del Inca; -Day 15, Return to Santiago on time for farewell dinner.
Note: For mountaineers in very good shape that come with previous acclimatization, there is a shorter 11day program run monthly.
